@xavierobest :Agreed. He does use neoliberal as a bit of a blanket term. I've always interpreted that term as more of a marker of economic policy. There very little that Coates has written in that area. Most of his pieces are confined to the politics of race and a few cover foreign policy.

@bigpapasmurf2 :Good work here. My main problem with West’s piece was his use of the neoliberal label, which feels antithetical to Coates beliefs.
And additionally, we don’t presume that West has all of Bernie Sanders beliefs even though he stumped for him, and Coates seems more critical of Barack then West has been over Bernie... if you could have anyone moderate a discussion between West and Coates, who would you chose? Thanks for the pod, and hope to see episodes of similar vigor.

Thanks for listening. Appreciate it. I think this tendency to reduce it to a mere beef is largely influenced by the fact thag they are black intellectuals. Salon even published a strange article comparing it to the Nas-Jay Z rap beef which in my book would be like comparing a debate between two Japanese intellectuals as some sort of karate contest.
@wutangfan85 :Good analysis. It wasn’t surprising to me about the response on social media by making it a “beef” between two black intellectuals instead of talking about the critique West made of Coates. Keep it up Xavier.
